Story Title: Composting

If you want to grow great vegetables, you need to make sure you’re taking proper care of your soil.

  • Adding a composted pig manure, lupin straw and Blood n Bone mixture to the existing soil in a 1 to 2 parts ratio. This will impact the soil’s ability to hold moisture and will generate a tremendous growth.
  • Mature compost mixed into sandy or nutrient deficient soils can have a massive impact on its health and productivity.
  • Composted over a 12-18 month period, mature compost will see your soil burst into life with thousands of earth worms and strong healthy growth. When a plant is strong and lush it resists insect attack and other pests and diseases.
  • To get it right, add your piggypost and turn it into the top soil at least 20cm deep with a cultivator.
  • You must boost the organic content of sandy soils, so grabbing the 35 litre bags for a medium garden is perfect. If you’ve only got a small garden, you can use the 14 litre bag. For huge gardens, there is a 900 litre bulk bag available.
  • Once the soil has been improved, make sure to give it a good water to get the organics integrated into the existing soil structure. Let this settle for a week before planting. It is brilliant for vegetable seedlings and is the perfect seed raising medium.
