Grumpy Farmer Milk
Title: Grumpy Farmer Milk
Broadcast: Episode 9, 2nd August, 2018
Presenter: Scott Taylor
Scott discovers the WA milk with the name you won’t forget. The grumpy farmer is producing our state’s creamiest milk, and it comes in good old-fashioned glass bottles! We’ll drink to that!
- Grumpy Farmer milk comes from an individual farm 45minutes south of Perth
- It is hard to get onto the property, as the farmer is very protective of his herd of Guernsey cows. So instead we head to the bottling plant to talk with Shaun Jacka from Grumpy Farmer Milk
- Guernsey cows traditionally have a higher fat, higher protein content that most of the other milking breeds in Australia. They are breed from A2 bulls, so contain the A2 protein, with the end result being a creamier, thicker and fuller taste.
- The Grumpy Farmer Milk plant is a petite boutique operation, processing the milk in 120L batches, which is gravity fed into a filling machine, and hand bottled, available on the Supermarket shelf within 24 hours.
- The operation focuses on getting the milk from the farm to the supermarket shelves as quickly and as naturally as possible, whilst processing it safely.
- Grumpy Farmer Milk only processes a few thousand litres of milk a week, with the milk only going through 1-2 pumps and 4 litres of tubing before it ends up in the bottle.
- Glass bottles are used for a combination of nostalgia, sustainability and people just swear it tastes better.
- Grumpy Farmer Milk is available at leading supermarkets and cafes.
