Nestled in the gateway to our states best known wine region is Flametree Wines and Theo takes a visit to learn about their award winning wines

• In 2017 Flametree wines picked up 6 trophies at the Perth Royal Food Awards.
• Cliff Royle is the head wine maker at Flametree, and part of the equation of good wine is the skill and passion of the wine maker.
• The winery is named after the Flametree, a native tree to the area which only flowers when all conditions come together, and the team likens this to the fact that all conditions have to come together to make a great wine.
• Cliff was attracted to Flametree as he is able to make wines from the six sub regions of Margaret River and they can pick and choose to make wines they believe reflects their philosophy.
• Flametree is about style and structure, perfume and elegance that goes with modern food trends.
• The Jimmy Watson Trophy was awarded to Flametree for their red wine, in their first year at the Melbourne Food and Wine show which really put Flametree wines on the map.
• Flametree wines like to use the large format Oak barrels for their Chardonnay as they find with the large format oak barrels it makes cleaner, finer, tighter wines which suits the Chardonnay they are making from the Wallcliff region.
• In 2017, Flametree won best wine in the Perth Royal Show out of 2000 wines with their Chardonnay.
• The awards are possible thanks to the Royal Agricultural Society of WA, a not for profit organisation helping us all identify the best in the West.
